You Know I Can’t Hear Without My Glasses…

by @ 2:39 pm on November 5, 2004. Filed under Movies | Quotes

The Princess Bride
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

“You mock my pain.“
”Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”

“Get back, witch.”
”I’m not a witch, I’m your wife. And after what you just said, I’m not even sure I want to be that any more.”

“Have fun stormin’ da castle.”
”Think it’ll work?”
”It would take a miracle.”

Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam…

Fight Club
All the ways you wish you could be, that’s me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.

You’re not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank. You’re not the car you drive. You’re not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your fucking khakis. You’re the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.

Tombstone
I’m your huckleberry.

“Why, it’s the drunk piano player. You’re so drunk, you can’t hit nothin’. In fact, you’re probably seeing double. ”
“I have two guns, one for each of ya.”

I have not yet begun to defile myself.

It’s true, you are a good woman. Then again, you may be the antichrist.

“Why do you do it?”
“Wyatt is my friend.”
“Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.”
“I don’t.”

So, what do you think is the best movie quote?

PS - It can be from any movie - these are just quotes I had handy

  1. I don’t know about movie quote, I’d have to think about that one.

But one of my favourite song lyrics is:

“heaven doesn’t want me… and hell’s afraid I’ll take over”
    from “terror” by My Ruin.

actually, the whole of that song is amazing :-p

  3. If I had to pick from those lines I’d go with:
“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

    From all movie-dom… hmmm… probably:
“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” along with “…and like that *puff* he’s gone.”
    from Usual suspects

  4. “I am your father’s brother’s cousin’s former college roommate…”
“what does that make you to me?”
“Nothing. Which is exactly what you will be when I’m done with you…”
~Dark Helmet and Lone Star from Spaceballs: The Movie

  8. If you label the entire script of Kissing Jessica Stein as one quote, there it is.

I’m really bad at specifics and remembering

    Oh and a short one I like…

“Freedom and Escape are different objectives”

From Bionicle (don’t ask… we’re apparently 7 years old in my English class… good lessons though)

  17. Anything Silent Bob says in any Kevin Smith movie.

“There’s a million fine-lookin’ women in the world, dude,
but not all of them bring you lasagna at work.
Most of ‘em just cheat on ya.” - Clerks

“Adventure? Excitement? Jedi craves not these things.” - Mallrats

The entire Chasing Amy speech. That said, Affleck’s speech to Alyssa in Chasing Amy is fucking choice, too.

Dogma’s an exception. “No Ticket” is just a laugh line. So’s everything in J&SBSB.

    But yeah. Bob rules.

  18. From American Beauty:

“It was one of those days when it’s a minute away from snowing and there’s this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that’s the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and…This incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever.”

  21. This is an easy one…The GREATEST MOVIE QUOTE EVER is:

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.
    - Moulin Rouge - Christian

Here are some of my other favs…and you know I could go on forever with quotes, lyrics and poems…

Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale. When you kiss me, without uttering a single word, you speak to my soul. You’re so beautiful… it hurts to look at you.
    - My So-Called Life

You should be kissed and often by someone who knows how.
    - Gone with the Wind

To think I might not see those eyes
It makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbyes
    I nearly do.
    - snow patrol - run

When will I begin to live again? One day I’ll fly away… leave all this to yesterday. Why live life from dream to dream, and dread the day when dreaming ends.
    - Moulin Rouge - Satine

There are few things sadder in this life than watching someone walk away after they’ve just left you, watching the distance between your bodies expand until there’s nothing but empty space and silence.
    - Someone Like You

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have the right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
    - Desiderata

“Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world.”
“Acting childish seems to come naturally, but acting like an adult, no matter how old we are, just doesn’t come easy to us.”
    - Edith Ann, [Lily Tomlin]

    I am Jack’s Smirking Revenge
    - Fight Club

    “FUCK”
or sometimes, if said just right, for uttering with enough love and fire, the woman beside you melts inside herself, immersed in all that word-heat.
    - House of Leaves – Mark Z. Danielewski

  24. Well, it’s actually from the Legacy of Kain series of videogames, but

“You said it yourself, Kain - there are only two sides to your coin.”
“Apparently so. But suppose you throw a coin enough times… Suppose one day, it lands on its edge.”

    also

“The first, bitter taste of that terrible illusion…. Hope.”

  25. The only true currency in this bankrupt world… is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool. - Almost Famous

I used to live like Robinson and Crusoe, shipwrecked among 8 million people but one day I saw a footprint in the sand and there you were. - The Apartment

The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling? - Breakfast at Tiffany’s

  26. Definitely one of my favourite movies in all the world. I’m quite sure there are other movie lines that I like more… I just can’t think of them off the top of my head right now :p

I think I’m going to do a quick little post on my journal listing some of my favourite lines, actually put some thought into it… feel free to comment there ;)

  27. It’s funny how people always quote Tyler Durden. You’ve gotta read the book. For one thing, it has something that they left out of the movie, but is one of the most beautiful things ever said:

    We are not special.
We are not crap or trash, either.
    We just are.

    I also liked this line
“There’s no shame in it, Raziel - revenge is motivation enough. At least it’s honest. Hate me, but do it honestly.”
