Cheesy, Boring Family Stuff

This entry is mostly so I can read it later and remember.

Thanksgiving was cool. At dinner, there was this little 1-year-old girl named Addison. She’s adorable – blonde hair, big blue eyes taking in the world. I had met her once before, briefly, around Easter. While I was walking around visiting with everyone, I caught this movement out of the corner of my eye. I turn to see Addison running at me, arms stretched out wide. I pick her up and we walk around the house checking everything out. Her mom comes to take her, and she buries her face in my neck and holds on. If I put her down, she’d toddle off but 5 minutes later, I’d turn and she’d be standing there again, with her arms open, looking at me with the best smile on her face. At one point while I was sitting in a chair watching the Dallas game, I had Addison, Maverick and Avery all sitting in my lap, curled up and happy.

On Friday, I was sitting at the table eating, and Avery climbed up in my lap. Maverick comes over and grabs Avery’s leg to move it and says, “I want to sit in Amy’s lap.” Avery says “no” and puts his leg back across mine. Before the fight breaks out, I move so they can both sit in my lap :)

Maverick will be 3 on Friday and since people were in from out of state for Thanksgiving, we basically celebrated his birthday all weekend. On Saturday, I took my sister and the boys to Casa Ole for lunch. Maverick, having already realized that birthdays mean singing and treats at restaurants, told the waitress when she came up to take our orders “It’s my Happy Day.” Smart kid!

And, on Saturday, Maverick hurt his finger. His grandmother was right there next to him and went to see if he was okay, but he shook her off and came running for me: “I want Amy.” He made my day.

On the other side of my sister’s family, she had some relatives in town. One of the couples provided good laughs. They are both in their early 20s and he is in school to be a Baptist preacher. At one point during the night I heard, *puts on deep preacher voice* “Marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN. Not a man and a man. Not a woman and a woman. A MAN and a WOMAN.” Lovely. The next day, we were in Victoria’s Secret, and she kept going on and on about the different outfits and which ones she liked.

I got pulled over on the way home. I had my cruise control set on 84 and the speed limit was 60. I came flying up behind this car, and realized it was a Highway Patrol car. Doh! I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t flash my brights at him, trying to get him to let me pass. Heh. He pulled me over and asked me the basic questions. Then he asked me “Do you work or go to school?” I told him I worked and he asked me where. I told him. He said, “Oh! So you’re the ones!” I told him not to hold it against me. He said, “Oh no. I use your cell phone service and I love it.” Then he asks me if we are coming out with any new technology and I’m just thinking to myself that this is very strange. He did let me off with just a warning though. I wonder if he still would have if he used a different cell phone service.

The best laughs of the whole weekend:
My sister and Maverick rode with me to Thanksgiving dinner. We were carrying a lot of food and several pies. The pecan pie was on top, riding next to Maverick. As I’m driving along, I look in my rearview mirror and notice that Maverick is falling asleep. I look back there and start dying laughing, trying to gasp out to my sister “Head. Pie. Pie. Head.” She’s very confused. I just keep laughing and trying to say Pie Head between breaths. She finally turns around and sees that he nodded off and his head was in the pecan pie! She tried to get him to lay his head to the other side, but it kept landing back in the pecan pie. We took pictures – aren’t we cruel? :D

  8. I will post them later this week. I have quite a few of the munchkins that I haven’t put up.

Some people gave my sister a hard time about his name, but I like it. It has a cute story behind it, too. As of right now, Avery is the hellion :)
