Anybody ever bought something off of eBay and when they got it, it wasn’t what the seller said it was?
How should I handle it?

Depends. Is there any way it could be a miscommunication, like… he said “Purple lamp shade” and you got a lampshade that would be better classified as “Indigo” or did he say “lampshade” and you got a beanie baby?
If it could be a misunderstanding, I’d contact him to try to resolve the issue. If he refuses, definitely leave him negative feedback, and maybe contact Ebay to see what else you can do.
If he blatantly ripped you off, skip the talk and just go to the negative feedback and contacting ebay.

Re-read the listing and then email the seller and ask your questions and spell out your concerns.
And it may take a couple emails, especially wiht it being the holidays. The seller might not be around to answer.
Depending on how you paid you might have some recourse as well.
Sorry for the bad experience

ebay provides a dispute procedure in these cases. they are (surprisingly?) very inclined to the buyer’s ear. i’d encourage you to take advantage of that. i’ve had issues cleared up before similar to this.

It said ‘lamp with lampshade’ and when I got it, there was just the lamp - no lampshade. I sent emails a few days ago - waiting on a response now. I just wasn’t sure if there was a formal process I needed to go through.

This is the first bad one, so I guess I’m lucky. The timing just sucks because it is the holidays and it was going to be a Christmas gift.

Cool, I will go read up on it. I didn’t know that there was a formal way to go about it.

Bleh, that sucks. What did you try to do about it?

horrible timing for a xmas gift. buit I guess the bright side is it is only Thursday.
In fact I am going to head out to do a bit of last shopping to finish up for the family and get it wrapped before they show up here tomorrow

Yes, I still have time to shop
Maybe I will learn my lesson about procrastinating!
Be careful and stay safe
*hugs*

I didn’t. I should have known that a laptop for just $300 was too good to be true.
Isn’t there a way to contact the seller?

*blink* It really was a lamp? Weird. I just used that as an example cause it’s the first thing I looked at when I glanced around the room.

Heh, no - it wasn’t really a lamp. But I went with it because it was a gift for someone who reads my LJ.
