A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy
I found out today that my college is holding a writing contest with cash prizes in the poetry and short story categories. Believe it or not, I actually managed to win a few writing contests when I was younger. Obviously, it’s been awhile but I’m still thinking about entering.
I’m kinda nervous though.
I’ve also noticed that I don’t write as much now that I work from home. Instead of having to kill time in the office, I am free to do what I want. Heh.
My family made it back to Houston safe and sound. They are only missing a few shingles, and have some limbs down in the yard. My sister said that they are turning off the power across Houston one county at a time for an hour at a time. Apparently there are problems with the electric supply and it could cause a state-wide outage. I haven’t been able to find anything on the Net about it yet though.
Family in East Texas weren’t quite as lucky - They are being told they will be without power for 3 to 6 weeks. They can’t get out because gas is scarce, and nobody is allowed more than 6 gallons at a time.
I forgot how much noise people generate. The “Fairy Odd Parents” is playing on TV, Jac is in the shower, the boys are fussing over this Sesame Street toy that sings, Toby is chasing a ball down the hall, and my sister is piddling in the kitchen. And that is just a snapshot!
Thank goodness all the noise brings a lot of laughter!

My family is safe and sound. I hope all is well with you.
We were supposed to be going to California this weekend, but it looks like we won’t be going. Since Rita has been upgraded to a cat 4 hurricane, my sister and her family want to head out of Houston and Jac needs to get out of Corpus Christi.
I told Jac that SK and I are hanging a sign on the front door that says, “Hurricane Party.”
I hope it doesn’t do any damage, but it will be nice to see my boys again!
I bet you thought I forgot about you, didn’t you, Kemidra? You asked for 20 random facts, so here you go!

Whew! That was…uncomfortable. But, anything for Kemidra!
Miklb and I are still tinkering around with my header image. What do you think? Is it too big?
While we were in Houston, SK and I were heading home from lunch and the boys were in the backseat. We managed to convince my nephews that my windows were magical, and that if they said “Open Sesame,” the window would roll down. Hearing them try to say “Open sesame” was great, but SK’s idea for the magic word for up again was even better: “Banana-rama!” Can you imagine anything better than driving down the road to the sound of children laughing, and trying to say “Open sesame” and “banana-rama?” It was a lot of fun…
Until my window wouldn’t roll back up. My brother-in-law figured out that the pulley was messed up that operates things. So, now my car needs to go into the dealership.
There are 3 different BMW dealerships in the DFW area, and they all have the same loaner car policy: Only if you bought your car from them and it is still under warranty. My car is still under warranty, but I lived 6 hours away when I purchased my car.
What a crock! I thought I bought a luxury car for the exceptional performance, and the exceptional customer service. Am I supposed to drive all the way to Corpus Christi every time I need something done to my car? Not to mention that I’ve seen the financial numbers of a dealership - the majority of their money comes from the service side of the house. Most dealerships, when you factor in salaries and overhead, LOSE money on car sales. Doesn’t it seem like they should be courting the service customers? Wouldn’t it be GOOD for their bottom-line to cater to any potential repair need, regardless of where the car was purchased?
Up until now, I’ve been thrilled with my “BMW Ultimate Driving Experience.” I cannot wait for the customer service inquiry this time - I plan to give them a piece of my mind.
Are there any Judging Amy fans out there? I’m really going to miss that show. I’ve been watching the reruns, and it’s at the point now where she finds out she is pregnant with David’s child. Almost every episode of that show brings tears to my eyes.
I think it makes me sad because I want my family to be like that. We have the dysfunctional part down. Now, we just need to learn to come together in the end. And yet as much as I hope things will change, I cannot take that risk again. I refuse to bail water out of a sinking ship.
Luckily, my sister and I are still friends. At least we managed to rise above. I hope my brother grabs a life preserver before it’s too late.
Sorry for the jumbled thoughts…I’m feeling a bit, well, jumbled.
