A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy

Reality Tv

Apprentice - I was so glad to see Andrea go.  She seriously grated on my nerves.

American Idol - Ah, Kellie Pickler.  After a couple of bad performances, it’s nice to see that the sympathy vote can only carry a gal so far.

And did you see Katherine McPhee’s dress on Tuesday?  I think I was drooling.

Ultimate Fighter - Kristian Rothaermel couldn’t hang with Michael Bisping.  Looking at the people who have yet to fight, I think there are some good matches coming up!

Corny Jokes

by @ 8:55 am on April 25, 2006. Filed under Meme | School | Travel

Quickie:  Our trip to California was wonderful!  Bumper cars, laughter and the smell of the ocean…

And, posts will be hit or miss over the next two weeks.  Anatomy and physiology lab final is only a week away, and lecture final is a week and a half away.  If you see me online, I should be studying!

But, I did take the time to take this silly meme…

the Ham

(4% dark, 57% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | LIGHT

Your style’s goofy, innocent and feel-good. Perfect for parties and for the dads who chaperone them. You can actually get away with corny jokes, and I bet your sense of humor is a guilty pleasure for your friends. People of your type are often the most approachable and popular people in their circle. Your simple & silly good-naturedness is immediately recognizable, and it sets you apart in this sarcastic world.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Will Ferrell - Will Smith

Update: SK pointed out that I didn’t include the link to the meme.  Oops.  Here it is.

SoaP, man, Soap

CJ, who knew it would get this bigDid you?

“Jackson, in his first interview since the Snakes craze went national, has tracked activity on such sites as Snakes on a Blog — the homemade trailers, the suggested soundtrack tunes, the gently mocking T-shirts. Most intriguing [to him], however, have been the fake movie posters.”

Additional scenes were shot in March with more gore, nudity and profanity so the PG-13 rating would become an R, the better to satisfy fan expectations. Best of all, Jackson gets to say his trademark obscenity in the new line: “I’m tired of these (bleeper-bleeping) snakes on this (bleeper-bleeping) plane.”

Snakes on a plane, man. Snakes on a plane.

Avoid the Noid

This is me avoiding my psychology paper that is due today.

At least history is done for the semester!  Since my grade is a 101 right now, and the professor only has a few grades left to post, I’m fairly certain I made an A in that class at least.

Oh, I’m playing in a poker tournament tonight.  If you are interested in those kinds of things, you can read more about it on my poker blog.

Writing research papers sucks!  I wonder if I’ll have to do any in nursing school.

Okay, okay…back to the grindstone.

Calgon, take me away!

Summer Schedule

by @ 8:08 am on April 10, 2006. Filed under Nursing | School

Summer registration started at 7a this morning.  I set my alarm for 6:45a so I’d have time to stumble to the bathroom, brush my teeth and all that jazz before the mad rush to sign up for classes started.  I started trying to login at 6:50a.  Who knows, maybe the server clock is faster than my clock, right?

No such luck.  I get a server error.  So, I keep trying every few minutes — and continue to get errors.  I reboot my computer, clear my cache and all kinds of fun stuff.  Still no love.  I check the help desk website, but they don’t have any announcements posted.  Finally, I try to call the school.  “I’m sorry, our offices don’t open until 8a.”  Great.  I resolve to wait, and try to sort through some old email to kill time.

I keep trying to access the registration page, but it’s still down.  Finally, 8a rolls around and I call the school just to be greeted by, “I’m sorry, nobody is available to answer your call now.  Please hold.”

This message repeats itself every 30 seconds for 45 mins.

Long story short?  I finally get to register at 8:50a when the website comes back up.  But, at least I’m registered!

May Mini-mester:
Life Span Growth/Development - Starts May 12 and ends May 26

Summer II:
Anatomy & Physiology II - Starts July 11 and ends Aug 17

After this summer, I will only need to take Microbiology to finish my support classes for the nursing program.  Woo!

New Forum

by @ 7:05 am on . Filed under Blog | Site News | Technology | Wordpress

I finally found a forum that I like and want to use for my blog.  I wanted a solution that would integrate with WordPress.  I tried bbPress for awhile, but it is still too new.  This is a great, simple solution!

In order to comment, all you need to do is register an account.  It also has the added bonus of saving time when posting comments on entries, because once you log in, you won’t have to enter your user name and password every time.

So, stop by and say hello!  Let me know what you think!

PS - If you don’t see the email within a few minutes, then check your spam folder.  It’s probably there :)

Cavalia

by @ 1:44 am on April 3, 2006. Filed under Entertainment | Life

CavaliaFor Valentine’s Day, I gave SK tickets to the Saturday evening show of Cavalia.  If you are not familiar with the show, this is how their website describes it:

For the first time on stage, the equestrian arts are infused with unprecedented magic and emotion in Cavalia, an innovative multimedia extravaganza.

Homage to the poignant history and fascinating bond between human beings and horses, Cavalia is a poem written in the language of sound, image and extraordinary performance.

Blending dramatic visual effects, live music, dance and acrobatics with the bold presence of over thirty magnificent horses - including the incredible Lusitanian stallions - Cavalia raises the bar for spectacular entertainment in the 21st century.

The show was fantastic!  To be honest, I have extremely high expectations going into the show (because I’d seen several expert horse trainers during my stint as a goat farmer/horse handler) and expected to be disappointed.  But, wow-oh-wow, did the show blow me away.  The sets were incredible, the music was wonderful and the horses were simply magnificent.  This week was actually supposed to be the end of the run here, but it was in such high demand that it was held over for two more weeks.  I highly recommend it!

Sunday we met some friends for lunch at Johnny Carinos and then headed to spend some time with SK’s parents.  The weather predicted thunderstorms, but the day turned out to be gorgeous.  With such great weather, we took the boat out to soak up some sunshine.  I’ll never understand the overwhelming calm that envelops me when I am near water, but I am thankful for it.

This weekend was amazing, and again I am reminded of how truly blessed I am in my life.
