A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy
There’s a song on the radio by Panic! At The Disco called I Write Sins Not Tragedies that is getting a lot of air play right now. Part of the chorus is “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?” I find it amusing that the radio stations around here are bleeping out “God” like it’s the bad word.
(For the curious, full lyrics under the cut)
I Write Sins Not Tragedies
by Panic! At The Disco
on A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out
Oh, well imagine as I’m pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can’t help but to hear, no I can’t help but to hear an exchanging of words.
“What a beautiful wedding! What a beautiful wedding!” says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
“Ah yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom’s bride is a whore.”
I chimed in with a “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I chimed in “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of hope.
Well in fact, well I’ll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved
Well this calls for a toast so, pour the champagne
Oh! Well in fact, well I’ll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved
Well this calls for a toast, so pour the champagne, pour the champagne.
I chimed in with a “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I chimed in “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I’d chime in “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?” No.
It’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I’d chime in “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

I have noticed the same thing. and it seems to vary from station to station.
Also fun to see what stations will bleep “whore”
I think Best Week Ever on VH1 actually bleeped “ho” but left “whore” alone last week.

I think it’s because technically, “damn” isn’t a swear, but “god damn” is considered a blasphemy, since it’s telling god to damn the person/place/thing/table leg. So they bleep “god” and it’s suddenly acceptable swearing.
Even better, two radio stations owned by the same company played Pink’s “Just Like a Pill” one right after the other way back when, and I was amused when the first one bleeped “bitch” and the second one didn’t.

while i appreciate the tenacity with which you adressed this issue, i LOVE panic! at the disco, and i write sins not tragedies. it is my choice to listen to it, and while the radio bleeps out god but not damn, every teen that listens to panic! knows what they say, and are all fine with it. it is the radio station’s judgement to bleep out god because some might find it offensive, but generally speaking (where i live, at least) if you listen to the type of station that plays panic! you’d be best off if you weren’t offended by vulgar language. but this song is amazing, and it’s not a bad song just because it says god damn. i hear worse things in the hallways every day at school.

Exodus 20:7 and Mathew 5:34 is God’s view of this subject.
