William H. Macy is one of my favorite actors. And Janeane Garofalo. Successful actors who came from other fields- I was going to suggest Robim Williams but studied acting inschool, along with his friend Christopher Reeves. So my pick for that would be Ice-T, who got into so much controversy with his song "Cop Killer" (which I've heard him do in a live concert before he pulled it') and now ironically he plays a cop on "Law and Order."
