A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy
My time in labor and delivery and in the newborn nursery went well. Actually, it went a lot better than I thought it could. The brief version? Not only did I see babies born — I actually CAUGHT one as he came out. It was gross, and pretty awesome. While in the nursery, I was appointed the offical ‘Fussy Baby Holder.’ People with several kids couldn’t get some of the babies to settle down, but they’d snuggle up, content, within moments of being passed to me. I really have no idea why, but they stopped crying, so I’m trying not to question it. But, the biggest news?
I DIDN’T FAINT.
Woo! Thank you all for the support and encouragement!

Never having given birth (if I had, I guarantee you would have heard about it — I’m male) and never having witnessed a birth, I’m not terribly familiar with what goes on during a delivery. But, when you say “CAUGHT” (the capitalization is yours) it makes it sound as though you needed a baseball glove and, had you not been there to catch him or her, the baby would have gone shooting across the room, crashing his/her little head against the far wall. I’m assuming this vision you’ve put in my head is not quite accurate.

That must be amazing; I’ve only ever been at the top end of a baby being born;)
If you were calm the babies would sense that and settle down. you are very lucky!

Do you have any suggestions for the L&D rotation? I start my rotation in L&D in a few weeks.
