A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy
While it may not sound like much to some of you, my weekend was packed! On Friday, I met up with a friend from college (yes, from the first time I tried that whole education thing) who I last saw over 10 years ago. She was in town to celebrate the birthday of a friend, and they were kind enough to let me tag along. I had a good time — I got to catch up a bit with my friend, meet some new people AND I learned how to make sangria at home. Can’t beat that
On Saturday, SK and I took Toby to spend the night at the lake house. Since the drive is through hill country, I was looking forward to seeing the wild flowers in bloom. The sky was overcast for most of the weekend, but because of all the rain we’ve had recently, everything was green and in full bloom. Springtime is a wonderful time to drive around Texas. I guess we weren’t the only ones to think so — at one point, we stumbled across what seemed to be a VW convention! There were Volkswagons all over the place! SK even pointed out one that was painted like Herbie the Lovebug. I didn’t realize there were so many different kinds of VWs out there.
After we made it home yesterday, I did some studying, and then had dinner with Jac. I’m trying to be good this week and get in a lot of studying. I have a test on Friday, and my final is coming up soon! My first nursing major careplan is due this week, and I’m a bit nervous about it. We did get some feedback on our mini care plans, but there’s such a big difference between a major careplan and a mini careplan. This major careplan counts for 20% of my grade in my clinical class. 30% comes from the various skill checkoffs, and the last 50% is the subjective evaluation by our clinical instructor. I sure hope she’s in a good mood when she does mine! I wonder if she likes chocolate chip cookies? ![]()
As you may have noticed, I haven’t written much here lately that is very personal. Things have been pretty hectic, but I can sum it up by showing you a 10 minute window into my day yesterday:
5:15p - Talking on the phone to my sister, she says “SK should be home soon, right?” “She doesn’t usually get home until around 6p.” Something clicks in my head and I start cursing. “Oh crap, I have to go! We are babysitting tonight, and I am supposed to meet her at her sister’s house at 6p!
5:16p - Rush to the bathroom, take a swig of mouthwash. Dash into my closet and throw on some clothes. Stop back in the bathroom long enough to spit, put on some deodorant and put my hair in a ponytail. Put Toby away and slip on my shoes.
5:19p - Run out the door to my car, locking the door behind me. While attempting to get in the car, I realize that I don’t have my keys. And now the door is locked.
5:21p - Remember the secret, get in the house, grab my keys and get in my car. After starting the car, I’m greeted with the low fuel light.
5:22p - Stop to get gas. It takes 15.92 gallons to fill up my 16 gallon tank. I definitely did not have enough gas to make it there.
5:25p - While attempting to get on the freeway, I stop to yield the right-of-way to the car on the feeder (aka access road for those of you who didn’t grow up in Houston).
5:25:30p - Jolted suddenly forward, as I am rear-ended by the guy behind me.
Yep, I was rear-ended. And that’s just a 10 minute window into my life.
Since my job involves website design and marketing, I spend a lot of time with Webtrends and monitoring search engine traffic patterns. While I can’t afford to use Webtrends for my personal site, I do love to look at my search engine referral logs.

While we were in Houston, SK and I were heading home from lunch and the boys were in the backseat. We managed to convince my nephews that my windows were magical, and that if they said “Open Sesame,” the window would roll down. Hearing them try to say “Open sesame” was great, but SK’s idea for the magic word for up again was even better: “Banana-rama!” Can you imagine anything better than driving down the road to the sound of children laughing, and trying to say “Open sesame” and “banana-rama?” It was a lot of fun…
Until my window wouldn’t roll back up. My brother-in-law figured out that the pulley was messed up that operates things. So, now my car needs to go into the dealership.
There are 3 different BMW dealerships in the DFW area, and they all have the same loaner car policy: Only if you bought your car from them and it is still under warranty. My car is still under warranty, but I lived 6 hours away when I purchased my car.
What a crock! I thought I bought a luxury car for the exceptional performance, and the exceptional customer service. Am I supposed to drive all the way to Corpus Christi every time I need something done to my car? Not to mention that I’ve seen the financial numbers of a dealership - the majority of their money comes from the service side of the house. Most dealerships, when you factor in salaries and overhead, LOSE money on car sales. Doesn’t it seem like they should be courting the service customers? Wouldn’t it be GOOD for their bottom-line to cater to any potential repair need, regardless of where the car was purchased?
Up until now, I’ve been thrilled with my “BMW Ultimate Driving Experience.” I cannot wait for the customer service inquiry this time - I plan to give them a piece of my mind.
Wow. Have I had a lot going on lately!
I turned 27 on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy day!
I’m still working on my write up, but here is the short version: Family visit was awesome and I’m quitting my job to go to school full time. Which means I need to sell my car. Anybody want to buy a 2000 BMW 328i?
This weekend was interesting. I’m really not even sure where to start. At the beginning, I guess…
came into town this weekend. We met up at Sue’s. I also got to meet ! Yeah! He’s adorable, and very funny. We’ll definitely have to do it again
While I am standing in Sue’s waiting on everyone to show up (yes, I was early, for once), this guy starts leaning around his friends to check me out. He sees me catch him looking and says “Sorry I was checking you out, but you are just too beautiful!” I do a little spin and say “If you are going to look, you may as well get the full view!” Later that night, I hear the friend he was standing with say “I like slutty women.” I turn to her and say “Did I just hear you say that you like slutty women?” She tried to play it off, but finally admitted she was in town for the weekend and looking for some action. So, then we made a game out of trying to pick out the easy gals for her.
Sue’s had a weird vibe, so we headed to Round Up fairly quickly. I met this really good dancer and had a blast. Oh! And to top it off, I was wearing heels. Yikes! It was my first time to dance in heels. I was surprised at how well it worked out – I am definitely not good at walking in them, so I was nervous about dancing in them! The guy enjoyed dancing with me so much, he introduced me to a friend of his that is a really good dancer – I love having new dance partners!
Saturday I had to take my car in to the shop. When I called to schedule the service appointment, they told me it would cost $200. When I got there, it turns out I didn’t need the oil service, I needed the Inspection 2, which happens every 60k miles. It wound up costing me four hundred forty fucking dollars! Insane, I tell ya. Venessa comes to pick me up from the dealership so we can spend some time together. La Madeline’s has some really awesome strawberry jam that tastes soooo good on croissants. I am drooling now, just thinking about it. Then we went to Barnes and Noble, had some Chai Tea and read the beginning of this book I’ve been trying to get her to read. She says she’s hooked!
Saturday night we go out to the bar in Arlington. I ran into a lot of people I expected to, and a few I didn’t. As I was coming off the dance floor, I look over at my friends and see a sight that scared the beejeezus out of me. This girl who looked just like the girl who stalked me in college was talking to my friends. After she walks off, I go over to LC and say “Do you know her?” She says “Just for 5 minutes.” I explain that she looks familiar, and it is not a good thing. She says “Well, what was her name?” “Kristie.” “Yep, that’s her name.” Great. I don’t think she recognized me, but it was still a very strange feeling, and threw me off balance to see her.
And, SA was out. She was my first love. We were together for 2 years, and even after we broke up, remained friends. Until about 2 years ago…something happened and I was told she didn’t want to talk to me any more. Now, I thought it was because she got messed up into drugs and I told people that I was sad she got so bad into that and she just wasn’t the same person I had fallen in love with. Anyhow, her group of friends is standing right next to my group of friends, near the dance floor. So as I am walking off the dance floor, a mutual friend points me out to her. She reaches out and touches me arm and says “Hey.” I say hello, and we both go back to talking to our friends. Eventually, we talk a little and dance a few times. Turns out her reason for not wanting to talk to me was much different than what I thought – my ex VG (then current) gf told her that I said some really bad things about SA that were not true. Just one more friendship in my life that VG tried to ruin. We spent some time talking, reminiscing about old times, and catching each other up on what was going on with our families.
The strangest part about the whole thing was that while I was talking to Venessa that morning, I told her that I was sad that SA and I didn’t talk anymore. It was sad to me that someone who was such a part of my life for so long wasn’t around anymore.
To top it all off – Cherry was there too. Between her, Kim and SA, those are the 3 people I have known the longest. So, all in all, I had a really good time. I danced pretty much every song and got to see some old friends. Still, the whole evening…unsettled me. I’m still not really sure what to make of it.
I’m in a good mood. My girl called me this morning, and I’d much rather wake up to her voice than my alarm. And, I get to see her next weekend! Also, is coming into town this weekend. Wahoo! We are going to have breakfast on Saturday. My brother finally created a LJ account, too. It is gorgeous outside. 64 degrees and lovely skies.
Not everything is peachy…I scheduled an oil service on my car for Saturday morning. It’s going to cost me ~$200! /faints I think I need to bat my eyes at the BMW service guy or something. I think a spider bit me. It’s this weird spot that is very tender above my heart. This morning, I asked this girl and guy I work with if they had ever been bit by a spider. She said, “Where? What does it look like?” I said, “I think I can show you without…” And she said, “Without looking like a lesbian?” Me: “Well, it’s hard for me to avoid that!” Ha! They all think it looks like a spider bite. I have insurance, but I am not in the system yet, so I have to pay up front and get reimbursed.
I stopped and got breakfast this morning: A chocolate pie, a Vanilla Coke and a Red Bull. Doesn’t that just sound yummy?
