Muzak City

One of the last things I expect to hear while dining in an Asian restaurant near Houston? The muzak version of El Shaddai by Amy Grant.

Seriously.

Maple glazed cake donuts are a sin.

Come Into The Light

I know I’m not the only one hating daylight savings time. How can I be expected to climb out of bed when I wake up snuggled up to a beautiful nekkid woman and it’s still dark outside!? There should be a law against that.

I did manage to have a productive evening last night. I unpacked and organized quite a bit while SK napped. After being attacked by the hanger monster, I decided I’d been productive enough for the evening. I played poker and worked on my website. Later, we had a picnic on the living room floor and watched TV. Have I mentioned how much I love my Tivo?

This weekend was beautiful. We went out the art gallery and bought stuff to fill the few remaining empty places on our walls. I got this sweet necklace that is made out of an old typewriter key. Sunday, we played miniature golf with SK’s dad and then went out to eat dinner on the lake. I cannot wait until the water warms up!

I hate work more and more, but for some reason I am not motivated to update my resume. What is wrong with me?

On another note, do you think it’s possible to make myself sick on maple-glazed donuts?

Constant Craving

When I got to work this morning, I was starving. We have a cafeteria in-house, so I ran downstairs to get something to eat. I had one of my favorite breakfasts – country potatoes with Tabasco sauce and a couple of sausage patties. Is that such a strange thing? I sure got some funny looks when I asked for the Tabasco sauce. Have you ever had Tabasco on Fritos, or is that just a Texas thing?

Do you eat anything that other people consider strange? I like:
Peanut butter on pancakes/waffles
Peanut butter on toast
Salsa on hashbrowns
Mustard on french-fries/mashed potatoes
Ranch dressing on spaghetti
Ranch dressing on pizza
No gravy on chicken fried steak
Mustard and dill relish in tuna
Salt on green apples, peaches and oranges

Is It Friday Yet?

After dinner last night, KA, DC and I were sitting around talking. KA kept trying to get me to have some wine. She says I don’t ever want to drink with her. For some reason, getting drunk the first time I come over and passing out in the spare room doesn’t count. Heh. I gave in to the peer pressure and had a glass of wine. Somehow, we start playing the “If…” book. I think KA was cheating, because she kept asking all these questions about sex. “If you could be amazing in bed at one thing, what would it be?” “How would you rate your current love life?” Don’t play “If” with a couple – the answers are too predictable! *insert sappy “awww” here*

I went to sleep around 4a. I woke up at 6a with 3 missed calls. None of them were from her. I really must start sleeping more. I’m feeling rather melancholy today. Sorry, no lightness in this entry. I feel like posting bits from bad poetry and good blues songs…but I’ll spare you.

Oh, I tried Mountain Dew Pitch Black this morning. It doesn’t trip my trigger. Kinda tastes like someone poured Dimetapp in my Coke.

Judging Amy season premiere is on tonight. At least I have something to look forward to today.

Now The Ghosts Are Flesh And Blood!

Oh!
I almost forgot!

Yesterday, I went to Einstien Bros Bagels for lunch. I hadn’t been there awhile, so I didn’t know what I wanted. I saw this sandwich “Cobbie on Challah.” The lady behind the counter said it was like a croissant. I love croissants, so I said I’d try it. It was a far cry from a croissant, but it wasn’t bad. But, the whole experience was kinda like taking a drink of iced tea just to find out it was watered down Coke.

Anyway, I was sitting there, eating my food and working on this new poem…I hear this woman’s voice say my name. I look up, and I see a face that looks vaguely familiar, but I cannot quite place it. I guess I have that ‘deer in headlights’ look, because she starts laughing at me, and says “It’s Jennifer! Don’t you remember me? We worked together at XXXX”

My mouth hits the floor. Wow - that girl has changed! She is a knockout! She sits down and we talk for a bit. Turns out, she came out and had always had a huge crush on me (damn, I coulda had another point toward my 7th toaster!).

She has to go, so we swap numbers. She wants to have dinner this weekend so I can meet her gf, who used to date a friend of mine. *hums “It’s a small world”*

Lemme tell ya, I’ll be glad when I am not attending this training class in Las Colinas any more. Too many old memories around here, and now the ghosts are flesh and blood!

The Day After…

I must really be getting old.

Its my birthday weekend, and I haven’t been smashed, taken off my clothes in the ‘wrong’ places, or danced on any speaker boxes. Is this the first stage in becoming an old fogey?

Yesterday, I went to this little Mexican bakery for breakfast. Pumpkin filled pastries - Yum! The I went to the beach and laid out in the sun. We took a walk down the beach and ran across this hoard of those little tiny clam like things (I’m not sure what they really are). As the wave would wash away, they would be exposed. Then, all the ’shells’ on this little piece of beach would stand on end and dig their way down into the sand. For some reason, I found this oddly sad and fascinating. I musta watched it happen 20 times. I figure there must be some reason they are not way out in the ocean so that they never get exposed. Do they need to breathe real air? Do they have to come to shore to mate? Hmm. Things to ponder.

OMG. I just realized, its been two years since I have had sex on the beach - and I live by the ocean! This needs to be remedied!

After the beach, I went and took a shower. My roommate got a new grill, so we figured we’d break it in in style!! I wanted to try a new marinade for the steaks — Google to the rescue! I found this really awesome marinade with apple juice, Worcestershire, coarse ground pepper, Italian seasoning and garlic. We got these HUGE rib eyes (like a pound each) and marinated them for about 2 hours. We sat outside, had a few frosty beverages and listened to tunes. While we were waiting for the grill to get ready, my sister called to wish me a happy birthday. Then she put me on speaker phone and my two nephews (1 yr old and 2 yr old) did the cutest rendition of happy birthday. The always get so excited to talk to me. The oldest one said ‘I wov you’ I told him ‘I love you too’ and he kept saying ‘I wov you too!’ And I could hear the younger one ‘wov you’ in the background. I was smiling, for sure :D

After some truly yummy steaks, I decided tipsy TTO was the way to go :D A friend of mine called and her whole gang sang Happy Birthday to me. It was really awesome. I wish I could have recorded it :D I think you tell any kid to sing happy birthday, and they will ALWAYS get excited. The kids didn’t even really know me and they were STILL getting into it :) Thanks, sweetie - I’m still smiling over that one!

I don’t think getting to be an old fogey is such a bad thing after all - not with friends and birthdays like this one.

Oh, yeah - and I’m gonna get pampered! (Thanks Jac)
