Jac’s back! I picked her up from the airport on Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday we went to NRH2O, a local waterpark. I haven’t been to a waterpark since I was a wee little one, and I forgot how much fun they can be! We spent the day playing on slides, floating around the Endless River and being tossed and turned in the wave pool. It was a great day to go since most of the kids in the area have already started going back to school. Six Flags also had a waterpark in the area called Hurricane Harbor, but we went to the smaller one. I’m glad because we didn’t have to deal with any lines, and it wasn’t very crowded. It was also very affordable. I got a little too much sun, but it sure was fun!

SK and I are trying to convince Jac to move to Dallas. We sound like walking billboards. I think the DFW Chamber of Commerce (if there is such a thing) should put us on their payroll!

I have to take Toby back to the vet today. He won’t put any weight on one of his hind legs, and SK noticed that it is really swollen. I checked to make sure he didn’t have anything stuck between his toes, but I cannot find anything. Poor Toby just cries and looks at me like, “Why are you doing this to me? Don’t you love me any more?”

As for work, I have to try to negotiate my own contract. I’ve never done that before. Gah! Here’s to hoping Google can provide me some answers.

Lassie, Come Home

“We should get a dog.”

I don’t remember who said it first, but adopting a dog kept coming up in our conversations. We both enjoyed having a dog in the past, but we weren’t really sure if we wanted the responsibility of a pet. We appreciated the companionship, but then we’d have to deal with dog poop in the backyard. With the end of chemo in sight, we could be traveling more often, but caring for a pet would limit our spontaneous trips. What should we do?

After recognizing that we were both leaning towards “Yes,” we settled on going to a few local shelters ‘just in case’ someone was waiting for us. Several shelters later, we’d met some beautiful dogs eager to find a loving family, but we still hadn’t found “our” dog. SK came home a little early one afternoon, so we visited some of the animal shelters in Fort Worth. A visit to the Humane Society revealed they only had puppies and large dogs, so our next stop was the huge city-run animal shelter in southeast Fort Worth.

An attendant called our name and we made our way down the sterile hallway. The hospital-like feel reminded me that this was a kill shelter, and our echoing footsteps made the place seem even sadder. I could hear the barking in the distance and it threatened to overwhelm us by the time we made it to the door.

“Here we go.”

The puppies with their pink noses pressed through the bars of the wire cages nearly broke my heart. We didn’t get past the third cage on the first aisle. This adorable black and white dog was sitting there calmly looking up at us. Even with all the other dogs barking, he just sat there wagging his tail as if to say, “It’s about time ya’ll got here.” We had to meet him!

He seemed to have a great personality, and he appeared healthy. We played with him for awhile, and then excused ourselves from the handler and went to talk. I really wanted to take him home, but I wasn’t sure how SK felt about him. She looked at me and said, “I think he needs to go home with us.” Yay! We filled out the paperwork, paid the fee, and Toby joined our family. Toby’s only been with us for two weeks, but it is hard to imagine our house without him.

If you are looking to adopt a pet, please consider your local animal shelter. A lifetime of love awaits you!

Rainy Days

Today has already been a long day.  Corbin woke me up this morning an hour earlier than what I wanted to get up.  I like having my ear lobes nibbled on, but that isn’t quite what I had in mind!  But, he’s so cute that I couldn’t be mad.

It doesn’t help matters any that it is been pouring rain here.  Everything outside is nasty.

Normally my company is casual dress but we have some big wigs coming in today.  We are trying to expand globally, and the CEO of this international firm is coming in.  All the guys are in ties – adorable!  So, anyway, trying to get dressed this morning and deal with a muddy bundle of energy was quite the challenge.

Oh – guess what!  I talked to my boss and he is willing to switch my day off to next Friday.  So…I get a 4-day weekend for 4th of July!  Wahoooga!  Now I only have to decide where to go.  Back to Dallas, or to Houston to see my family?  I miss my nephews, but I think I need to work on Corbin’s manners a bit before I take him around a 1 year old and a 2 year old.

(This is a picture of them asleep in my car with my camera phone)

Aren’t they adorable?  *proud aunt*

Puppy!

by @ 9:01 pm on June 19, 2004. Filed under Pets | Photos

My roommate called me yesterday morning and told me that when she was taking her dog to the vet, they had a puppy that needed a home.  I stopped by after I got off work and fell in love!

Isn’t he adorable?  After I heard his story, I had to bring him home.  A lady and her kids found him in their neighborhood but couldn’t keep him.  Another  lady had taken him home already, but her friends freaked out.  They don’t think that any pitbull can be a good dog, so she took him back to the vet.  I hate people who don’t know anything.  He has a couple of boo-boos, but he is in good health.  He has an overbite, so I figure the breeders turned him loose.  Jerks.  He’s about 10 weeks old, so we are saying his birthday is April Fools day :D  So far, he has been great.  He loves his mom :)

I haven’t picked a name for sure…but I think I might call him Corbin.  Bonus points if you know the movie ;)

It may look like I rescued him, but I think he’ll wind up rescuing me.
