New Internet Directory

by @ 5:11 pm on February 28, 2007. Filed under Entertainment | Games | Human Rights | Lesbian | Nursing | Site News | Sports | Texas | UFC

I was piddling around on the Internet and decided to set up an Internet link directory. Silly, I know. It’s not like I need something else to do. I’m still working on the layout, but I thought I’d let ya’ll know about it in case you were interested in being listed in a link directory. I have several special categories (Gambling Directory, Texas Directory, Gay & Lesbian Directory, MySpace Directory, Nursing Directory, MMA & UFC Directory and Games Directory), and most of the general ones. If you don’t feel there’s a good home for one of your sites, just suggest a new category and I’ll take care of it.

Come one, Come all! Feel free to spread the word about my new web directory.

UFC 61: Bitter Disappointment

by @ 9:48 pm on July 11, 2006. Filed under Entertainment | News | Reviews | Sports | Television | UFC

We watched UFC 61: Bitter Rivals on Saturday night. I was hoping the card would surprise me, but the fights were fairly boring for the most part. Why are some many fighters content to let things go to the judges for a decision?

Yves Edwards Vs. Joe Stevenson - I think this was one of (if not THE) bloodiest fights I’ve ever seen. Stevenson opened up a nasty cut on Edwards’ head and the doctor stopped the fight. I look forward to seeing ‘Daddy’ fight again.

Josh Burkman Vs. Josh Neer - Boring. But another win for Burkman and Team Punishment.

Dan Christison Vs. Frank Mir - Another boring fight. Neither one impressed me, and Mir won by unanimous decision. Personally, I probably would have given the win to Christison but it was really close.

Tito Ortiz Vs. Ken Shamrock - Even before the fight started, everyone knew Tito would come out on top. What nobody predicted was that the ref would stop it at 1:08 of the first round! The stoppage is controversial, and so Shamrock will probably insist on a rematch so Ortiz can REALLY kick his ass.

Tim Sylvia Vs. Andrei Arlovski - 5 rounds of Arlovski trying to pick apart Sylvia but failing. Technically, Arlovski is the better fighter by a long shot, but Sylvia has size on his side. They were both rocked during the fight, but managed to regain their composure. I hate that the judges don’t seem to think that when all other aspects of the fight were fairly equal, pressing the action should be worth something. I’m not sure how they thought Sylvia won it, when Arlovski was practically chasing him around the ring the entire fight. (Yes, Arlovski wasn’t quite as aggressive at the end, but rumor has it he messed up his knee during the fight.) However, I do realize that in order to take away the belt, Arlovski needed to make it clear that he was the better fighter. Maybe next time.

Torino Winter Olympics

Where were you last night?  SK and I were parked in front of the TV, singing along to the Olympic song.  The pyrotechniques were wonderful in the opening ceremony, and I loved watching the nations proudly marching in.  I’ll be on the edge of my seat for the next two weeks, to see how the drama with Chad Hedrick (who already won the first USA gold), Michelle Kwan and Bode Miller pans out.  Luckily, through the power of Tivo, we won’t have to miss a single event.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame

by @ 10:24 am on October 20, 2005. Filed under News | Sports | Texas

How many phone calls did you get around 10:30p last night? If you didn’t get any, you probably aren’t a Texan and you never lived in Houston!

When I pulled up the sports page this morning, part of me expected my nightmares to spill over into the real world. I covered my face and read between my fingers, thoughts of the worst going through my mind - something went wrong, so they’d need to play the game again. Thankfully, the gremlins lose their power in the light of the day, and the Astros are STILL in the World Series!

Yes, it’s true! Because of the Astros, the World Series of Baseball is coming to Texas for the first time ever!!!

–Update–
Oh.My.God. Out of curiosity, I checked ticket prices for the first game in Houston. $682 each for standing room only tickets! Madness, I tell ya.

Astros Pull It Off

Did you miss the longest game in post-season history? If you did, you missed a great game! I just hope the Astros can pull it off against the Cardinals this year.

The Ultimate Fighter 2

I have no idea why Rich Franklin agreed to let Marcus Davis to fight Joe Stevenson. If someone doesn’t stop this “two tough guys fight it out” thing, then we’ll wind up with another Diego Sanchez/Kenny Florian fight - boring! I’ll give Joe credit, but maybe with a few more weeks of training, Marcus might have done better in the same match up.

I do know one thing - ole Jorgie-boy (Jorge Gurgel) knew he was coming out a winner either way. By talking Marcus into challenging Joe, Jorge would say goodbye to a tough opponent either way. At least someone in the house went to sleep with a smile.
