A Sneak Peak Into My Crazy Life as I Try to Get Through Nursing School,
and the Technology, Books, Movies, Music & Lyrics I Enjoy
One of the last things I expect to hear while dining in an Asian restaurant near Houston? The muzak version of El Shaddai by Amy Grant.
Seriously.
While it may not sound like much to some of you, my weekend was packed! On Friday, I met up with a friend from college (yes, from the first time I tried that whole education thing) who I last saw over 10 years ago. She was in town to celebrate the birthday of a friend, and they were kind enough to let me tag along. I had a good time — I got to catch up a bit with my friend, meet some new people AND I learned how to make sangria at home. Can’t beat that
On Saturday, SK and I took Toby to spend the night at the lake house. Since the drive is through hill country, I was looking forward to seeing the wild flowers in bloom. The sky was overcast for most of the weekend, but because of all the rain we’ve had recently, everything was green and in full bloom. Springtime is a wonderful time to drive around Texas. I guess we weren’t the only ones to think so — at one point, we stumbled across what seemed to be a VW convention! There were Volkswagons all over the place! SK even pointed out one that was painted like Herbie the Lovebug. I didn’t realize there were so many different kinds of VWs out there.
After we made it home yesterday, I did some studying, and then had dinner with Jac. I’m trying to be good this week and get in a lot of studying. I have a test on Friday, and my final is coming up soon! My first nursing major careplan is due this week, and I’m a bit nervous about it. We did get some feedback on our mini care plans, but there’s such a big difference between a major careplan and a mini careplan. This major careplan counts for 20% of my grade in my clinical class. 30% comes from the various skill checkoffs, and the last 50% is the subjective evaluation by our clinical instructor. I sure hope she’s in a good mood when she does mine! I wonder if she likes chocolate chip cookies? ![]()
I was piddling around on the Internet and decided to set up an Internet link directory. Silly, I know. It’s not like I need something else to do. I’m still working on the layout, but I thought I’d let ya’ll know about it in case you were interested in being listed in a link directory. I have several special categories (Gambling Directory, Texas Directory, Gay & Lesbian Directory, MySpace Directory, Nursing Directory, MMA & UFC Directory and Games Directory), and most of the general ones. If you don’t feel there’s a good home for one of your sites, just suggest a new category and I’ll take care of it.
Come one, Come all! Feel free to spread the word about my new web directory.
Yesterday, the high was in the 80s. Today? It just started snowing!
Stay safe and warm ![]()

- Classes are going great and I have 3 tests next week

Things have been crazy-hectic around Casa de SKnJax, but full of joy and fun! On Saturday, we went to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo with SK’s family. In order to blend in with the indigenous people, I shined my belt buckle and my shit-kickers and put on my pearl-snap shirt. I was ready for the rodeo!
Because of her family’s involvement in the community, they have great box seats. The girls loved it because they could stick their hands through the fence during the grand entrance and touch hands with cowboys, cowgirls and rodeo clowns as they galloped by on their horses.
I can’t remember how I ever rode a horse in such tight jeans, but there is something to be said for cowpoke apparel: Pearl-snap shirts are fun to take off!
On Sunday, friends came over to hang out. SK cooked lunch and baked a cake. We played a few rounds of Scene it? and talked about our upcoming trip to Ruiodoso, NM. We also tossed around the idea of starting a (mostly) online book club, but I’ll write more about that if once we work out the details. It’s always nice to laugh with friends.
On the school front, I’ve already had 3 tests this week and I have a couple more next week. I really have to find some way to get my stress under control, or I’m going to drive SK and Jac crazy. I’ve put so much pressure on myself that I’m always on edge.
I just got home from taking my algebra test, and SK rode with me. We just happened to drive past Krispy Kreme, and as luck would have it, the ‘Hot Now’ light was bright red. SK’s holding a warm donut and calling my name. A beautiful woman and sugar — it’s time for me to end this!
For the first time in my life, I am not proud to be a Texan. And lemme tell ya, claiming Bush wasn’t easy.
Separation of church and state, people. Embrace it.
How many phone calls did you get around 10:30p last night? If you didn’t get any, you probably aren’t a Texan and you never lived in Houston!
When I pulled up the sports page this morning, part of me expected my nightmares to spill over into the real world. I covered my face and read between my fingers, thoughts of the worst going through my mind - something went wrong, so they’d need to play the game again. Thankfully, the gremlins lose their power in the light of the day, and the Astros are STILL in the World Series!
Yes, it’s true! Because of the Astros, the World Series of Baseball is coming to Texas for the first time ever!!!

–Update–
Oh.My.God. Out of curiosity, I checked ticket prices for the first game in Houston. $682 each for standing room only tickets! Madness, I tell ya.
Did you miss the longest game in post-season history? If you did, you missed a great game! I just hope the Astros can pull it off against the Cardinals this year.
